Kids’ Hanging Gyms

It's a set of swings and climbing pieces that hang from a single fixing in the ceiling. You start with one attachment and add or swap others over time: a baby swing seat, a disc swing, a climbing ladder, a trapeze with rings. One anchor point overhead, and the play changes as your child grows more capable.

It depends on the attachment, which is the whole point of the system. The baby swing seat suits babies who can sit with support, from around six months. The disc swing, climbing ladder and trapeze are made for older, steadier children, roughly toddlers and up who can grip and climb safely. Always match the piece to what your child can already do.

Both do a lot for young bodies. The gentle motion of a swing helps balance and that inner sense of movement, and it settles many children. Climbing a ladder or hanging from a trapeze builds grip, core strength and coordination. Just as useful, it brings active, physical play indoors on days when the backyard is off the table.

Safety starts with the fixing. It has to go into a solid ceiling joist or beam rated for the load, never just plasterboard. Check the weight limit on each attachment and match it to your child. Lay a soft mat underneath, keep the area clear, and stay close while they swing or climb, especially on the ladder and trapeze.

Surprisingly little floor, since everything hangs from one point overhead. What you do need is clear space around it for the swing to arc, with nothing to knock into on the way through. A doorway or the corner of a playroom with a solid joist above it usually does the job nicely.

One ceiling fixing covers years of play. You set up the bracket once, then add or swap attachments as your child moves from a baby swing to a climbing ladder or trapeze. It saves buying a separate swing for every stage. And it brings real, active play inside on the rainy days when the yard is out of reach.
