Pikler Triangles

What is a Pikler Triangle

A Pikler triangle is a child development climbing structure frame that encourages kids to climb and play in a safe environment. Most of our My Duckling pikler triangle is made of wood with hard wax oil, which consists of three poles connected at the top to form a triangular frame, with a series of rungs or steps attached to the poles for the child to climb on.
The Pikler triangle is designed to help children develop gross motor skills, balance, coordination, and confidence through climbing and play. It is named after Emmi Pikler, a Hungarian pediatrician who developed the concept in the 1930s to encourage child-led, self-directed play and learning.

The Pikler triangle is meant to be a safe and challenging climbing structure that allows children to develop agileness, stability, cooperation, and determination. It is designed to be used by children at least eight months old and can sit on their own. Children should always be supervised using the Pikler triangle, and the structure should be placed on a flat, stable surface.
The Pikler triangle has recently become popular to encourage child-led, self-directed play and learning. It is often used in Montessori and other educational settings to foster physical development and encourage children to explore and learn through play.

Pikler triangles are generally considered safe for children to use if they are used correctly and supervised while using them. It is important to ensure that the triangle is set up on a flat, stable surface and that it is not positioned near any other objects or hazards that the child could fall into or onto.

Pikler triangles are typically recommended for children at least eight months old and can sit independently. At this age, children are developmentally ready to begin exploring and climbing, and the Pikler triangle provides a safe and challenging environment for them to do so.

Inspired by Emmi Pikler, a Hungarian pediatrician, My Duckling range of folding pikler triangle is a Montessori-inspired climbing structure designed to help children develop their motor skills and coordination. Check out our Pikler Triangles collection.
